College Transitions
Going to college is an exciting time for many, but what is not talked about as much is how normal it is to feel anxious about the experience as well. If you are feeling as if everyone is figuring out college life while you are struggling with your time away from home, you are not alone.
Trying to balance a new living environment, school, friends, family, while attempting to figure out the path for your life is a lot to be tasked with!
College is supposed to be an amazing experience, “The best time of your life,” is what we have all heard time and time again! So at times when it is not going that way, we can feel like we are doing something wrong or question what is wrong with me that I am not having the “best time of my life.” When your anxiety is impacting how you are functioning in your daily life or in your ability to form new or maintain relationships, it is time to find someone to speak with. Rest assured if you are struggling, you are not the only one! Finding someone to talk with may help you reset and lead you on a path of a better college experience. The sooner you address the anxiety the easier it will be to forge that new path. Here are a few things that let you know you may want to consider it is time to make some adjustments.
- Nervousness and/or a Sense of Uneasiness
- Uncontrollable Worry
- Inability to Sustain Attention
- Skipping Classes or Not Completing Coursework
- Irregular Sleep Patterns or Insomnia
- Changes in Eating Habits
- Isolation and Avoidance of Social Situations Even with Friends and Family
Danielle has valuable experience helping learn balance as your adjusting to a new environment. Danielle understands how challenging going to college can be and when it seems like it is not what you thought it can make you feel as if you want to give up or walk away. There can be so many expectations and when it does not turn out or feel the way you hoped, the comparisons can start to form in your mind. When these comparisons take over and it starts to impact your feelings or behaviors negatively it may be time to talk with someone. The sooner you start to work on your feelings, the easier it will be to overcome your anxiety and you will start to recognize you are not the only one.
Danielle can help you learn how to establish new patterns, take small steps, and begin to enjoy your life again. It can be hard to make these changes on your own and to figure out if where you are is the right fit, if college is right for you, or if you need to reset your life into an entire new direction. These thoughts may be overwhelming to think of at first, but Danielle is skilled at helping you tease out your thoughts and feelings, quieting the outside noise where you can learn to get attuned to your gut feelings.
